How to use Determinator Targets

David Howard explains how to use a Determinator Target

Set.

Shoot.

Score.

Set target at 100 yards.
Shoot 5 rounds from a single hunting position.
Determine your effective range for that shooting position.

Remember, SAFTEY FIRST!
Always use eyes, ears, and treat firearms with the respect they deserve!

Read Your Ring, Know Your Range!

Instructions:

  1. Set your Determinator target at 100 yards. Ensure the target is in a safe location with either an appropriate backstop OR open range past target.
  2. Take aim at the appropriate bull's-eye* from selected firing position.
    • NOTE: While we recommend zeroing your rifle from bench with a sled or rest, we encourage shooting our targets from realistic hunting positions (example: standing, kneeling, prone, supported and/or unsupported).
  3. Fire 5 rounds from a single hunting position.
  4. Determine your individual effective range by identifying the largest Vital Ring in which ALL 5 rounds have impacted within.
    1. Read your ring, know your range! (See example)
  5. Record your individual results for different animals, shooting positions, and weapons using the Personal Effective Range card included with all Determinator Target packs.

* Determinator  Effective Range Targets are designed with multiple bull's-eyes to accommodate rifles zeroed at 100 yards, as well for rifles zeroed in at 2, 3, or 4 inches high at 100 yards.  It is designed to work for all set up's*
